"Leading with Light"
Aesthetic Gynecology is becoming one of the fastest-growing branches in women's healthcare. It spans the fields of gynecology, dermatology, urogynecology, urology, vascular and plastic surgery. With the advent of new surgical and non-surgical minimally invasive techniques, such as energy-based devices (EBDs) using fractional CO2 lasers, fractional Er:YAG lasers, and RF and ultrasound devices (HIFU), the field of aesthetic and regenerative female genital surgery has evolved into a highly specialized one with increasing popularity among patients and physicians. Certification is highly valuable to physicians to show credentialing and attract and reassure patients.
The ABLS offers a Diplomate Certification in this exciting field. The process consists of:
(Please see the Certifications page for details on each step and the applicable fees).
To prepare for the Written Examinations, the Board provides study materials that consist of (1) its proprietary Study Guide on Fundamental Laser Science, Light-tissue Interaction, Ethics and Laser Safety; and (2) the comprehensive book Aesthetic and Regenerative Gynecology (Springer, 2022)** These materials provide a complete preparation.
Fundamental Laser Science and Light-Tissue Interaction: Fundamentals of laser physics, optics and operating characteristics for the clinician; biophysics of resurfacing human skin, including the processes of light-tissue interaction; absorption and scattering; power density; beam delivery; super-pulsing and ultra-pulsing; thermal damage; details of laser operation and processes for resurfacing; and new technologies.
Laser Safety: Risks and hazards in use of lasers, inappropriate or unskilled use of lasers, dealing with smoke, eye protection, breakage of fibers, current regulations and laser classifications.
Aesthetic Gynecology (AG) Procedures: Review of female anatomy, review of lasers and other energy-based devices in AG, labiaplasty, vaginoplasty and vaginal rejuvenation, clitoralplasty, hair reduction, labia majora augmentation or reduction, vulvar lightening, perinoplasty, monsoplasty, genital warts, pelvic floor rehab, and G-spot / O-spot amplification.
